The preferred method of disposal is via a community sharps program.  All hospitals and nursing homes in the state of New York with the exception of federal facilities, are mandated by law to accept properly contained home-generated sharps.

If you do not have a sharps container, you can simply place them in a heavy duty plastic container, such as an empty laundry detergent bottle.  When the sharps container or heavy duty plastic container is full, simply place it in your regular household trash! (Ensure the container is sealed)
